Triple confirmation: Kneipp once again awarded EcoVadis platinum

Ecovadis Platinum Sustainability Rating badge indicating top 1% status as of February 2025, showcasing commitment to eco-friendly practices.
As a subsidiary of the HARTMANN Group, Kneipp continues their sustainability success story. This year again, Kneipp has received the EcoVadis platinum rating. This places the company among the top 1% of all companies assessed worldwide.

Sustainability as an ongoing process

Sustainability is a core element of Kneipp’s corporate strategy. The company’s commitment to developing environmentally friendly, socially responsible and economically viable solutions is reflected across all areas of its operations. The EcoVadis rating not only provides transparency for retailers and consumers but also serves as a benchmark for the continuous improvement of internal processes.

EcoVadis evaluates companies’ sustainability performance based on 21 criteria across four key areas: environment, labor & human rights, ethics as well as sustainable procurement. Although EcoVadis raises the standards for top ratings every year, Kneipp improved their results in 2025. For the first time, the company was awarded the highest rating of “Excellent” in all categories.

Sustainable product innovation – less plastic, more nature

Kneipp’s commitment to sustainability is particularly evident in its approach to product development. The company increasingly relies on plant-based raw materials from certified organic cultivation and continues to refine existing formulas to balance high product quality with environmental responsibility. These efforts reflect a broader strategy to reduce the ecological impact of body care products through more conscious ingredient selection. In addition, Kneipp has made progress in aligning its product lines with sustainable sourcing practices. This includes the expanded use of organic plant extracts and oils as well as the revision of certain product ranges - such as the arnica range - where organically grown arnica is now used in the cosmetics range and arnica ingredients from certified wild harvesting are increasingly used for the medicines. Such innovative measures contribute significantly to Kneipp's strong rating in the EcoVadis ranking, particularly in the areas of environmental protection and sustainable procurement.

More sustainable packaging for resource conservation

Packaging design plays a central role in Kneipp’s sustainability strategy. Specific improvements have been made to reduce waste and use recyclable materials. For example, the plastic content in the caps of the 200ml shower gel and lotion tubes has been reduced by up to 30%. Kneipp also emphasizes sustainability in lip care packaging: the folding cartons are made from 30% grass fibers.

Anchoring sustainability in the Code of Conduct

Beyond product-specific innovation, Kneipp is placing greater focus on clear ethical standards. Their updated Code of Conduct explicitly includes sustainability, social responsibility and democracy as core values. Applying to all employees, these guidelines are a key component of the company’s strategy. Transparency and strict requirements throughout the entire value chain shall ensure that sustainability is not just a corporate goal but actively practiced.

Concrete action for a sustainable future

To further raise their already high standards, Kneipp is pursuing a clear sustainability strategy with measurable goals. A central objective is to achieve Scope 1 and 2 local climate neutrality through direct CO₂ reductions without offsetting. The company is also working to reduce emissions along their supply chain to further minimize their ecological footprint. Increased application of organic ingredients also supports more sustainable use of natural resources. Additionally, Kneipp is increasingly turning away from petroleum-based plastics to alternatives for packaging and point-of-sale materials, reducing their environmental impact even further.

Responsibility beyond the company

Kneipp’s commitment extends beyond internal measures. Their sustainable approach is also intended to set an example for the industry as a whole.

Kneipp remains true to their mission: to take a holistic view of sustainability and to continuously explore new paths forward.
