The
single-use products and plastic packaging systems used in the healthcare system, such as pouches, blisters, bottles, ampoules, cartridges, inhalers or injectors, are another important aspect when it comes to environmental protection [3]. Since only a small proportion of plastics are or can be recycled, these products sooner or later become waste and are then usually “thermally recycled”, which means they are burned and released into the atmosphere as carbon [4]. In order to show commitment in this area, HARTMANN aims to reduce the plastic footprint of
surface disinfection wipes to zero by 2028. To this end, as part of
Mission Zero, the plastic content in wipes will be gradually reduced through targeted innovations and the further development of the portfolio. We already took a first step in this direction in September 2023 by launching the new
Bacillol® Zero Tissues in Germany, Austria and the Netherlands. The wipes used in Bacillol® Zero Tissues are 100% plastic-free, made of biodegradable material, impregnated with a patented active ingredient complex based on organic fruit acids and have a CO2 footprint that is up to 75% lower than conventional surface disinfection wipes. With the development of Bacillol® Zero Tissues, HARTMANN successfully laid the foundation for Mission Zero. Shortly afterwards - in April 2024 - the bestseller Bacillol® 30 Sensitive Tissues followed as
Green Tissues with 100% plastic-free wiping material.
